Cumbria Arabians

About Us

We specialise in breeding black Arabians but our priorities are temperament and correct conformation. An outcome of our breeding policy over the past 40 years has been the production of top-level endurance Arabians.

The stud was founded in Cumbria, England, in 1977 by Fiona Walling, with two Arabian mares of English breeding. NARRISA (Naidarus / Risnab) and ROYAL GAYZA (Harwood Asif / Silver). From 1980 the stud began specialising in breeding black.

In 1996 Cumbria Arabians relocated to Over Whitlaw Farm in the beautiful Scottish Borders, previously one of the most successful racing stables in Scotland under trainer Bobby Fairburn. There the Arabians are kept naturally running on ground at 700’ – 1000’ – an ideal environment to produce fit athletic youngstock, well-balanced in mind and body.

Previous Stallions

The first black stallion

MISTA BEAUJANGLES (Hallany's Mesaoud / Kapri Nah) was imported from Canada in 1980. His lines were Egyptian / English and he proved to be a very influential sire, particularly of endurance horses. He produced, among numerous other successful horses, CUMBRIA ZA, 1997 British National Champion endurance horse, exported to compete in the United Arab Emirates, and CUMBRIA TANGO (Advanced Endurance).

The second black stallion

FAHIM HISAN (Bahim Hisan/Nagiba), bred at Gleannloch Farms, USA, was straight Egyptian and was imported in 1985 to use on Beaujangles' daughters. He was more successful in breeding black and sired amongst others DAHISAN, 1997 Scottish Champion endurance horse. Such was the demand for Fahim Hisan's breeding he was sold to the United Arab Emirates where he proved to be an excellent sire of racehorses, in particular.

AHS Premium Stallion

AL SOOD (‘The Black’) was purchased as a foal from Meranti Arabian Stud in 1990. He was also straight Egyptian and has become a proven sire of endurance horses in his own right as well as producing successful horses in Racing, Showing, Eventing and Dressage.
